Having seen one in person... they are *huge* vehicles, even by today's standards and nothing has its stately presence on the road. Nothing.

Here's the funny thing. You've mentioned your family isn't keen on used cars...
"Hey, mom, I'm buying a used car."
"What??"
"A Rolls."
"Er, uh..."
Best way to shut down complaint ever.

I still need a job before I can buy a fancy car :P
I'd shoot for a Silver Shadow or Silver Spur. Always loved those.

You can do better on price; my ex-boss bought a well-sorted, very good driving SCIII with the Webasto sunroof for about $32,000 at a classic car auction a few years ago.
I rode in it a few times, and even drove it one time following him from the service center to his garage; it felt like a strange cross between a fifties Cadillac and a fifties 1-ton truck.

I thought I was the only one who noticed it. Seriously massive machines and looks heavy to drive.
